Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

SB 292 -- CREDIT CARD RECEIPTS

SPONSOR: Yeckel (Luetkemeyer)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Financial Services by a vote of 19 to 0.

Under current law, credit card and debit card receipts may show
only the last five numbers of the credit card or debit card.
This bill clarifies that this provision applies only to the
receipts that are given to the cardholder.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that existing law protects the
cardholder from theft of their credit card number by requiring
that only the last five numbers appear on the receipt. The bill
is simply a clarification that this restriction applies only to
the cardholder's copy, not the merchant's copy, since the whole
number is needed for billing purposes.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Luetkemeyer.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
